Our Why

At HopeHill Church, our heart is to see people
encounter Jesus, discover real hope, and live out their God-given purpose in
everyday life.

HopeHill Church is led by our Senior Pastors, Barrett and Sarah-Jane, affectionately known as Pastor Baz and Pastor SJ.

Married since 2000, Pastor Baz and Pastor SJ were married in the very church they now lead — a beautiful reflection of their long-standing commitment to God’s house and His people. They are proud parents to three daughters, Chloë, Paige, and Eden, all of whom are actively involved in various aspects of our church family.

Both Pastor Baz and Pastor SJ bring a wealth of ministry experience that predates their marriage, having served faithfully in ministry individually in their earlier years. Together, they have planted two churches: The City Church (now Shofar Church) in Cape Town, and HopeHill Church in Springs and Pretoria.

Driven by Kingdom purpose, Pastors Baz and SJ are passionate about advancing the Kingdom of God wherever they are called to serve. Their leadership reflects humility, faith, and a deep love for people.

Our Values

Love

1

Love forms the core of who we are and what we do as a church family. Everything we do flows from our love for God and for people.

Scripture:
Mark 12:30–31 · John 13:35 · 1 Corinthians 13:13

Unity

2

“Team” is God’s design for effective ministry. We do not compete — we complete. We are always better together. We love community and intentionally guard our unity. We place family before function, because issues are negotiable, relationships are not.

Scripture:
Ecclesiastes 4:9–12 · Psalm 133:1 · 1 Corinthians 1:10

Honour

3

We love to encourage and cheer each other on, no matter how big or small the task. We are each other’s biggest supporters — it’s in our DNA.

Scripture:
Romans 12:10 · 1 Timothy 2:1 · 1 Peter 2:17

Generosity

4

We believe in generosity of time, wisdom, finance, resources, and love. The world of the generous gets larger and larger.

Scripture:
Proverbs 11:25 · Luke 6:38 · Philippians 2:3

Excellence

5

We serve an excellent God, and all He has made is wonderful. Excellence is not perfection — it is faithful stewardship and doing the best with what God has entrusted to us.

Scripture:
Matthew 25:14–23 · Colossians 3:23 · Philippians 4:8

Fun

6

HopeHill is a life-giving, faith-filled church. Jesus is enjoyable, and where His presence is, there is freedom and fullness of joy. We laugh often — it’s good medicine.

Scripture:
Psalm 16:11 · Proverbs 17:22 · 2 Corinthians 3:17
